Principles of Harm Reduction
Harm reduction is not just convincing people to use the drugs you’re “comfortable” with people using. Generally, people have an issue with opioids and methamphetamine. Sometimes cocaine.
These drugs themselves are not the problem. Unregulated or adulterated forms of these drugs are the problem. You know, fentanyl doesn’t really kill people when it’s being used in consistent, controlled doses and not randomly showing up in your “Xanax”. One of many detrimental consequences during the alcohol prohibition era was that, on average, 1000 Americans died every year from the effects of drinking tainted liquor. Criminalizing drugs is a high maintenance, high cost, ineffective nightmare.
